Braces vs clear aligners is one of the first decisions you face when you want straighter teeth. Both can improve your smile, make your teeth easier to clean and make your bite more comfortable. Both work well when they suit the case, and the right choice depends on how complex your teeth are, your lifestyle and your budget. This guide compares them side by side, including what each costs in Pakistan.

How each one works

Braces

Small brackets are bonded to the teeth and connected by a wire. The wire is adjusted at regular visits to guide the teeth into position. Brackets can be metal or tooth-coloured ceramic.

Clear aligners

Aligners are a series of custom, almost invisible plastic trays. Each set moves the teeth slightly and is changed every 1–2 weeks. They are worn about 22 hours a day and removed to eat and brush.

Braces vs Clear aligners: which costs less?

In Pakistan, clear aligners often cost more than traditional metal braces, because every set of trays is custom-made from a digital scan of your teeth. The difference is usually smaller for mild cases that need only a short course of aligners.

When you compare prices, check what each quote includes:

  • The initial scan or impressions and the treatment plan
  • All aligner sets, or all brace adjustments, for the full course
  • Extra refinement trays if your teeth need fine-tuning
  • Retainers at the end of treatment
  • Follow-up visits during treatment

A lower headline price can end up costing more if retainers or extra visits are charged separately.

Who is a good candidate for aligners?

  • Adults and older teens with mild to moderate crowding or gaps
  • People who don’t want others to notice their treatment at work or university
  • Patients who will reliably wear and look after the trays

Braces are often better for severe crowding, large bite discrepancies, or when daily wear can’t be guaranteed.

How to choose between braces and clear aligners

  1. Get an assessment first. An examination and scan show whether your case is mild, moderate or complex.
  2. Be honest about wear time. Aligners only work if you wear them 20–22 hours a day. If that sounds difficult, braces may suit you better.
  3. Think about your daily life. Aligners are almost invisible and can be taken out, which many working adults and students prefer.
  4. Compare the full cost. Ask for a written quote that includes retainers and follow-up visits.

If clear aligners suit your teeth, Dr. Maryam Bangash can plan and supervise your treatment at our Bahria Town clinic. If braces are the better option, she will refer you to a trusted orthodontist.

Results and retainers

Either way, a retainer is essential afterwards. Teeth naturally tend to drift back. Wearing a retainer as directed protects your result for the long term.

When straightening isn’t needed

For a single chipped or slightly uneven front tooth, bonding or veneers can sometimes give a quicker cosmetic improvement. They don’t change the bite, though. Dr. Maryam Bangash will explain what each option can and can’t achieve. Book a consultation at our Bahria Town clinic, or read about cosmetic dentistry in Rawalpindi.

Frequently Asked Questions — Braces vs Clear Aligners

Are clear aligners as effective as braces?

For mild to moderate cases, yes, when worn as prescribed. Complex cases often do better with braces.

Am I too old for braces or aligners?

No. Adults of any age with healthy teeth and gums can straighten their teeth.

Do aligners hurt?

You may feel pressure for a day or two with each new set. That is a sign they’re working.

Can overseas patients do aligner treatment?

Often yes. The scan and start can be done during a visit, and progress can be monitored remotely with planned check-ins. See our overseas patient page.
